I am so tired. This week has been absolutely crazy, to say the least. My boss was hospitalized and so guess who gets to be in charge??? That's right, me. One of the other Deans commented that this was my career path, but why thrust me into it? I thought most people worked their way up. It's finally calmed down today; I'll only be at work until 8 tonight! I have kids to call, my desk to clean, and a shelf to put back together.
I must say it's been fun to be the "big" boss; but it's also frustrated me. There's no one to back me up immediately. Sure, anything I ask of the President she gets done in 30 minutes (it's amazing!), but she's usually in meetings all day and can only get to me when she's got a free moment. And of course everyone asks if I need anything...when I don't need anything. They're nowhere to be found when I do. What a vicious cycle.
Tomorrow night is the family holiday picture session. Hopefully Avery will cooperate; she's at that age where she doesn't give a shit what her parents say or do. Yikes. She's pretty sassy. At least we'll be in most of the pictures so all she has to do is giggle at the camera. It should be an interesting and exhausting night, only to get back up at the crack of dawn for the college's Open House the next morning. Whew.
Okay, one more thing before I go. Avery has started talking more and more, thank goodness. I love to watch her have a "conversation" with her Mr. Potato Head, but what's really got me is her fondness for her Care Bear. She asks for him profusely, "Be-yar? Be-yar?" I think it's adorable.
