Wow, I found a wi-fi network that I could log onto!! Anyways, obviously I had Brennan on March 6th, and he's too cute for words. :) I woke up with contractions at 2 am that morning, and tried to go back to bed. At 4:30 I woke Bryon up because they were coming about 4 minutes apart. So we did some packing and I called a friend of mine at 5 and left for the hospital at 5:30. (The hospital is literally up the street so it took really, a minute to get there.) I got hooked up to all the monitors and they realized I was contracting at 2 minutes apart...I must really suck at the timing part. How women do it I will never know. So, they called the doctor on-call, who decided to be an ass and make the nurses try to stop the contractions. I had just been there a week before and I was at full-term then when it took 12 hours to stop them. Bryon and I were really mad at the on-call doctor because we knew he just didn't want to come in and assess me. The nurses knew how upset we were so as soon as the on-call doctor went off-duty they called my OB. He came in...3 hours later and determined that the meds didn't work (DUH) and that Brennan was actually getting stressed out with each contraction so he called in the troops and an hour later we had a beautiful baby boy with a full head of hair....I mean, he looked like a monkey! I didn't tolerate this c-section like I did the first time; I think it's because I knew what was going to happen and knew how I would feel, and I couldn't stand not being in control. But, it was totally worth it and our entire family was able to make it in time to see me in recovery. Brennan was 7 lbs, 5 oz and 20 1/2 inches and born at 2:35 p.m. A bit smaller than Avery, but I also weighed about 20 pounds less this time around.
Avery has had a tough time adjusting to being a big sister. When they brought Brennan into the room while I was in recovery, she started crying and wanted them to "take it back; didn't want it." I felt bad for her because it was a rough morning and nothing went as we had planned, but it all worked out. I got to go home that Monday evening (which looking back, I WAS NUTS to think I could go home only 48 hours after a major surgery), and Avery was pretty sketchy still for the next week. She's now a fabulous big sister and loves Brennan very much. She likes to help change the diapers and play with him. I'm so very lucky. I think I also lucked out that Avery turned 3 just 3 weeks after Brennan was born so she got spoiled again. :)
Brennan is now just over 7 weeks old. He is really gaining control over his head, and has started smiling and cooing. It's so fun to watch him discover what he can do. I am lucky enough to stay home one more month with him and can't wait to see what he can accomplish these next few weeks. I'm also anxious to see how much he weighs and how tall he is...I don't have a scale at home, and I always forget to measure him with the tape measure.
Life with two kids is extremely difficult; no one could prepare me for the added stress toting 2 kids under the age of 5 around...but the blessings outnumber and outweigh the difficulties and I am extremely lucky to have two beautiful children.
